Magazine & Online Stories

Writing from northwest Montana, Becky Lomax specializes in stories about the outdoors—the environment, people, travel, and sports. Her attention rivets to the senses with details. She conveys the feeling of standing atop windy bluffs, watching golden eagles migrate, skiing in Rocky Mountain powder, and backpacking alongside mountain goats. As a photographer, she hones in on seasonal images that celebrate the outdoors from panoramic mountaintops to snowflakes, leaves, and mud.
She has written more than 450 stories for publications such as Smithsonian, Hemispheres, AAA Living, Backpacker, Running Times, Camping Life, National Wildlife, Telemark Skier, Cross Country Skier, National Ski Areas Association Journal, Northwest Travel, Montana Magazine, Montana Outdoors, and Flathead Living. For 10 years, she covered ski resort news for OnTheSnow.com, a publication of Mountain News Corporation. She also writes for regional newspapers: Great Falls Tribune, Spokesman Review, and Flathead Beacon. Her words describe collaring grizzly bears to hiking Glacier National Park's trails, backpacking southwest canyons to building mountain bike paths, niche ski areas to artists. She also covered two national parks for Bindutrips.com. Flathead Living has reprinted her essay "Farewell Glaciers," originally published by the Whitefish Review.
